The Oke-Ogun zone of Oyo State has warned political parties that it may withhold support in the 2027 governorship election if the region is again sidelined in the state’s power-sharing arrangement.
In a letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, political parties and other stakeholders, the region demanded fairness and inclusion in the race for the Oyo governorship seat.
The position was conveyed through a political advocacy group, Egbe Ajosepo Fun Itesiwaju Gbogbo Wa, which insisted that Oke-Ogun has long contributed significantly to electoral victories and political stability in the state.
According to the group, the region has consistently mobilised voters and defended party structures over the years but has repeatedly been excluded whenever discussions about governorship succession arise.
The group warned that any political party unwilling to genuinely consider Oke-Ogun aspirants in 2027 should not expect electoral support from the people of the zone.
It also expressed concern over alleged moves by powerful political interests to frustrate credible aspirants from the region within different political parties.
The advocacy group maintained that the demand for power rotation and inclusion is rooted in fairness, justice and political balance, adding that token promises would no longer satisfy the people.
Traditional rulers, youths, professionals, market leaders and other stakeholders in the zone were said to be united in demanding stronger political recognition for Oke-Ogun.
Political observers say the development could intensify conversations around zoning, inclusion and power rotation ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
