Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State, has urged US President Donald Trump to support Nigeria in tackling insecurity rather than issuing threats or making divisive statements.
Trump had on Friday listed Nigeria among countries of “particular concern,” accusing its government of ignoring attacks on Christians. In response, Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), described the remarks as worrisome and potentially harmful to national unity.
“It is important to emphasise that our country is a sovereign nation whose people face different threats from outlaws across the country,” Kwankwaso said in an X post on Sunday. “The insecurity we face does not distinguish based on religious, ethnic, or political beliefs.”
