Former Anambra State Governor and NDC presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, has dismissed claims that he is avoiding former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking in Cape Town, South Africa, during the Spier Dialogue 2026, Obi described Atiku as a respected leader and elder brother, insisting there is no conflict between them.
“There are very few human beings who are as close as I am to Atiku. I can’t be running from him,” Obi said.
The comments come months after Obi and Atiku parted ways politically following the collapse of their coalition efforts under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Obi explained that his exit from the ADC was not personal, but due to unresolved internal disputes and endless legal distractions within the party.
After leaving the ADC, Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where both politicians are now playing major roles ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
The development has continued to fuel political discussions over possible alliances, opposition unity and the growing battle for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027.
