Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has submitted a ₦892 billion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year, outlining a strong push for development and growth.

In his presentation to the State House of Assembly, Makinde announced that ₦502.65 billion would be channeled into capital expenditure, while ₦389.34 billion is set aside for recurrent costs. This allocation reflects a strategic 60:40 emphasis in favor of long-term infrastructure and development projects.

Governor Makinde described the 2026 budget as the “Budget of Economic Expansion,” intended to convert the stability achieved in prior years into tangible opportunities. Key pillars of the proposal include infrastructure, education, health, and agriculture.

Breaking down the sectoral priorities:

Infrastructure is slated to receive ₦210.03 billion, about 23% of the total budget.

Education will be allocated roughly ₦155.21 billion, representing 17.4% of the budget.

Health is given ₦70.87 billion (around 7.1%), while agriculture is allotted ₦19.99 billion, about 2.24%.

Makinde expressed gratitude to the state legislature for its cooperation in previous budget cycles, noting that swift passage of earlier budgets has supported “massive infrastructural development” across Oyo State.

Ahead of the presentation, the Oyo government held stakeholder engagement meetings across all seven geopolitical zones to gather input. The administration also encouraged further community input, especially from the Oke-Ogun zone, to ensure that the final appropriation aligns with residents’ needs.
