A student from an Ondo State university, Akinteye, has emerged as the new president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
The election, which attracted student leaders and delegates from tertiary institutions across the country, concluded with Akinteye securing victory to lead the national student body.
Supporters of the newly elected president described his emergence as a significant moment for student representation and youth leadership in Nigeria.
In his acceptance remarks, Akinteye reportedly pledged to prioritise student welfare, education reforms and stronger engagement with government authorities and educational institutions.
He also promised to promote unity among students nationwide and address challenges affecting tertiary education in the country.
Political and education observers say leadership within NANS often plays an important role in shaping student activism and national conversations around education policies.
The election process reportedly generated excitement among students, with expectations high regarding the direction of the association under the new leadership.
Stakeholders within the education sector have continued to call on student leaders to promote peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement on issues affecting Nigerian students.
NANS remains one of the most influential student organisations in Nigeria, representing millions of students across universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
