United States President Donald Trump has warned that Washington may take military action against Nigeria if the alleged killings of Christians continue.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he had directed the Department of War to “prepare for possible action” and threatened to cut off all U.S. aid to Nigeria if the attacks persist.
President Bola Tinubu rejected Trump’s claim, saying it misrepresents Nigeria’s reality and that the country remains committed to religious freedom.
Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga also dismissed the genocide allegations as exaggerated, stressing that Nigeria’s security challenges are not driven by religion.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said talks are ongoing with U.S. officials to address the concerns diplomatically.
