Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has urged Nigerians to unite behind President Bola Tinubu in the fight against terrorism and insecurity threatening the country.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye said the period calls for unity, not division along political or religious lines, stressing that national security must take precedence over partisan interests.
“At this critical period, Nigerians, irrespective of political or religious affiliations, should come together to support the President and join efforts to overcome the lingering security challenges facing the country,” he said.
The former lawmaker described the recent warning by US President Donald Trump about alleged killings of Christians in Nigeria as a matter that should concern all citizens.
He noted that the Tinubu administration and security agencies are making concerted efforts to combat violent crimes, adding that national unity remains crucial to achieving peace.
“The current security situation did not start with President Tinubu’s administration but has evolved over time from terrorism to banditry,” Oyintiloye said. “At no point has Nigeria fought a war against any particular religion.”
He urged citizens to rally behind the President, emphasizing that terrorism has affected all faiths.
Oyintiloye also advised against the deployment of foreign troops to Nigeria, suggesting instead that international cooperation should focus on intelligence sharing and equipment support.
“Getting foreign support in terms of equipment will be good but not deployment of soldiers,” he said. “It may complicate the situation and lead to greater problems.”
He further cautioned opposition figures against divisive rhetoric, saying insecurity spares no political party.
“This is not a time to play opposition politics. We must all come to the realisation that all our hopes, aspirations, and dreams to get public offices rest squarely on the continued existence of Nigeria,” he added.
