Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed confidence that the South-East region will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, despite the strong political influence of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Umahi argued that the Federal Government’s ongoing infrastructure projects and developmental initiatives in the South-East have changed the political landscape and strengthened support for President Tinubu in the region.
According to him, many residents are beginning to appreciate what he described as unprecedented federal attention to critical road projects and other key investments across the zone.
The minister maintained that performance and visible development would ultimately influence voters more than sentiment or political affiliations when Nigerians head to the polls.
His remarks come amid increasing political calculations and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with major political figures positioning themselves for the contest.
The statement is expected to spark fresh debate across the South-East, where Peter Obi remains one of the most influential political figures and enjoys significant grassroots support.
