SHUN CORRUPTION, OKPEBHOLO TELLS EDO LG CHAIRMEN

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has charged newly sworn-in local government chairmen across the state to shun corruption and focus on delivering meaningful development at the grassroots.

The governor gave the charge while addressing the newly inaugurated council chairmen, urging them to see their positions as a responsibility to the people rather than an opportunity for personal gain.

Okpebholo called on the council leaders to prioritise the needs of residents in their respective local government areas and ensure that public resources are used for the benefit of the people.

He stressed the importance of accountability, transparency and responsible leadership, reminding the chairmen that their actions would determine whether they can justify the confidence placed in them by the people.

The governor also urged them to focus on projects and initiatives that would directly improve the lives of residents, particularly in areas such as infrastructure and other basic services.

Okpebholo warned the council chairmen against corruption and practices capable of undermining development at the local government level.

He urged them to work closely with their communities, listen to the concerns of residents and ensure that the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots.

The governor said the newly sworn-in chairmen have an important role to play in strengthening development across Edo State and called on them to make accountability and service to the people their priority.
