Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a fracture to her right ankle during Nigeria’s 5-0 victory over Comoros in the 2028 Olympic qualifiers.

The injury occurred during the first half of Tuesday’s second-leg encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State. Ajibade reportedly sustained the injury following a collision with Comoros defender Diore Miriame Kaina Said.

The forward was unable to continue after landing heavily on her right foot. She was subsequently carried off the pitch on a stretcher and replaced by Folashade Ijamilusi.

According to reports, an MRI scan confirmed the ankle fracture, with the Nigeria Football Federation’s spokesman, Ademola Olajire, indicating that the player was expected to undergo surgery in Paris.

Ajibade’s recovery could keep her out of action for several weeks, potentially affecting her availability for club commitments and upcoming international fixtures. Her medical team is expected to provide further details about her recovery following treatment.

The injury is a setback for the Super Falcons, given Ajibade’s importance to the team as captain and one of Nigeria’s key attacking players.

Despite the setback, Nigeria progressed to the next round of the Olympic qualifiers with a 7-0 aggregate victory over Comoros. The Super Falcons are scheduled to face Morocco in the third round in March 2027.
