The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed that the welfare, safety, and prosperity of Nigerians remain the central focus of the country’s foreign policy.
Speaking on Nigeria’s diplomatic priorities, the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, on behalf of the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, said the country’s “Nigeria First” policy is designed to protect the interests of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
According to the ministry, Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements are increasingly focused on creating opportunities that improve the lives of citizens, strengthen national security, attract foreign investment, and promote economic growth.
The ministry noted that the government remains committed to protecting Nigerians overseas through effective consular services, while also fostering stronger bilateral and multilateral relationships that support the country’s development goals.
It added that the “Nigeria First” approach places citizens at the centre of foreign policy decisions, ensuring that international partnerships deliver tangible benefits for the nation’s economy and people.
The government also reiterated its commitment to deepening cooperation with other countries on trade, education, technology, security, and investment as part of efforts to advance Nigeria’s global interests.
The remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to reposition Nigeria’s diplomacy to better serve its citizens and enhance the country’s standing on the international stage.
