Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has called for comprehensive psychological support and rehabilitation for the pupils and teachers recently rescued after their abduction in Oyo State.
Reacting to the victims’ release, the senator urged the Federal Government, state governments, and relevant agencies to prioritise their mental and emotional recovery following the traumatic experience.
“I call on the Federal Government and state governments, in collaboration with relevant agencies, to ensure the provision of psychological support, trauma counselling and rehabilitation for the rescued victims to facilitate their full recovery from the psychological effects of the kidnapping,” she said.
Natasha stressed that while securing the victims’ freedom was a significant achievement, long-term rehabilitation was equally important to help them overcome the emotional and psychological impact of their ordeal.
She also commended the security agencies and all those involved in the rescue operation, while urging authorities to intensify efforts to combat kidnapping and strengthen the protection of schools and communities.
The senator reaffirmed the need for sustained investment in mental health services for victims of violence and insecurity, noting that proper counselling and rehabilitation would help them reintegrate into society and resume their normal lives.
