MODRIC URGES PORTUGAL TO GIVE RONALDO A PROPER FAREWELL

Croatia captain Luka Modric has urged Portugal to give Cristiano Ronaldo a fitting farewell, describing the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as the greatest player in the country’s history.
Modric said it was sad to see the current situation surrounding Ronaldo and Portugal, following the forward’s recent departure from the national team camp.
The Real Madrid legend said he hoped the situation would be resolved, whether Ronaldo decides to continue playing for Portugal or bring his international career to an end.
“Cristiano is the greatest player in the history of Portugal, and he deserves another farewell and another ending with the national team,” Modric said.
Ronaldo’s international future has come under fresh scrutiny after he left Portugal’s camp following a disagreement over his role in the team.
Portugal coach Jorge Jesus has since left the door open for Ronaldo to return, saying the decision ultimately rests with the veteran forward.
Ronaldo remains Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer and most-capped player.
