LAUTECH DOCTORS URGE MAKINDE TO RELEASE TRAINING FUND, SETTLE SALARY ARREARS
Medical doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital have appealed to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to urgently disburse the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) and clear outstanding minimum wage arrears owed to healthcare workers.
The doctors said the payment of the training fund is essential to support resident doctors undergoing specialist medical training, while the settlement of arrears would boost staff morale and improve service delivery in the health sector.
According to the medical practitioners, delays in the release of the funds have created financial difficulties for resident doctors who rely on the support to meet training requirements, examination expenses, and professional development obligations.
They noted that healthcare workers have continued to provide critical services despite mounting challenges and called on the state government to prioritise their welfare.
The doctors argued that investing in the training and welfare of medical personnel would ultimately strengthen the healthcare system and improve patient care across the state.
They also expressed concern that prolonged delays in addressing welfare issues could affect staff motivation and contribute to the migration of healthcare professionals in search of better opportunities elsewhere.
The appeal comes amid broader discussions on healthcare funding, workforce retention, and the need to strengthen medical institutions to meet the growing healthcare needs of Nigerians.
The doctors urged Governor Makinde to intervene swiftly and ensure that the Medical Residency Training Fund and outstanding wage arrears are paid without further delay.
