The Kaduna State Government has disbursed ₦100,000 each to 97 inmates recently granted state pardon as part of efforts to support their reintegration into society.
The financial assistance is aimed at helping the beneficiaries rebuild their lives, start small businesses, acquire vocational skills, and reduce the likelihood of returning to crime.
State officials said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to rehabilitation rather than punishment alone, stressing that former inmates deserve an opportunity to become productive members of society.
The government urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the funds, remain law-abiding, and contribute positively to their communities.
It also called on families, community leaders, and employers to support the reintegration process by giving the pardoned inmates a second chance.
According to the state government, the programme forms part of broader efforts to promote restorative justice, reduce recidivism, and strengthen public safety through successful rehabilitation.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the government for the support, pledging to use the funds responsibly to build better futures for themselves and their families.
