IG DIDN’T BAN RECORDING POLICE, ONLY OPPOSES MISUSE FOR SKITS — MEDIA OFFICER

The Nigeria Police Force has clarified that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, did not ban citizens from recording police officers while carrying out their duties.
The Force said the police chief’s concern was the misuse of recordings, particularly when videos of officers are edited or used for entertainment skits without proper context.
A police media officer explained that citizens can document police activities, but such recordings should not be deliberately manipulated or presented in a way that misrepresents officers or their actions.
The clarification follows concerns and reactions on social media over reports suggesting that the Inspector-General had prohibited members of the public from recording police officers.
The police said the position should not be interpreted as a restriction on legitimate recording of police activities.
The Force urged members of the public to use recorded material responsibly and avoid using it in ways that could mislead the public or undermine police operations.
