HOW I ALMOST FELL VICTIM TO $2M BLACKMAIL PLOT’ — WIKE
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed how he narrowly escaped an alleged $2 million blackmail plot involving false claims against his son.
Speaking on the incident, Wike said unidentified individuals approached him with allegations concerning his son and allegedly demanded $2 million to suppress the story and prevent it from being made public.
The former Rivers State governor said he refused to bow to the pressure, insisting that he would not pay money to cover up allegations he described as false and baseless.
According to Wike, the individuals behind the alleged plot believed he would succumb to blackmail because of his position in government, but he chose to confront the matter instead.
He maintained that his son had done nothing wrong and accused those involved of attempting to extort money through fabricated claims.
Wike warned public office holders and prominent Nigerians to remain vigilant against blackmailers, stressing that giving in to such demands only encourages criminal activities.
The minister reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and said he would continue to resist attempts to intimidate or extort him through false accusations.
His comments have sparked public reactions, with renewed discussions on the growing use of blackmail and misinformation against public figures.
