FG RULES OUT ELECTRICITY TARIFF HIKE
The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that there will be no immediate increase in electricity tariffs, stating that its priority is to improve power supply and enhance service delivery before considering any tariff review.
The government said ongoing reforms in the power sector are focused on expanding electricity generation, strengthening transmission infrastructure, and improving distribution to ensure more stable and reliable electricity for consumers.
Officials also reaffirmed their commitment to achieving universal metering across the country, noting that accelerating the deployment of prepaid meters will help eliminate estimated billing and ensure customers pay only for the electricity they consume.
According to the government, any future review of electricity tariffs will be based on improved service delivery, fairness, and the need to protect consumers while ensuring the sustainability of the power sector.
The administration added that it is working with electricity distribution companies, generation companies, and other stakeholders to address operational challenges and improve efficiency across the electricity value chain.
The government also urged electricity distribution companies to improve customer service, reduce outages, and ensure greater transparency in billing practices to rebuild public confidence in the sector.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to delivering affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity, stressing that improving access to quality power remains central to Nigeria’s economic growth and national development.
