A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has postponed its ruling on the bail application filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, until July 1.
The court deferred its decision after hearing arguments from both the defence and prosecution in the ongoing case involving allegations of corruption brought against the former governor by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
During the proceedings, El-Rufai’s legal team urged the court to grant him bail, arguing that he is entitled to his freedom pending the determination of the case.
The prosecution, however, presented its position, asking the court to carefully consider the circumstances surrounding the matter before reaching a decision.
Following submissions from both parties, the presiding judge announced that ruling on the application would be delivered on July 1.
The case has continued to attract national attention due to El-Rufai’s prominence in Nigerian politics and his role as former governor of Kaduna State.
Supporters and critics of the former governor are now awaiting the court’s decision on whether he will be granted bail as the trial progresses.
