BWALA SAYS ONAIYEKAN SPOKE FOR CATHOLICS, NOT CHRISTIANS

Presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala has reacted to comments surrounding the recent meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Christian leaders, stating that Cardinal John Onaiyekan spoke on behalf of the Catholic Church and not the entire Christian community in Nigeria.
Bwala said it was important to distinguish between the positions of individual Christian denominations and those of the broader Christian population, noting that no single religious leader can claim to represent all Christians in the country.
According to him, the Federal Government remains committed to engaging religious leaders from different faiths and denominations as part of efforts to promote national unity, peace, and inclusive governance.
He stressed that the Tinubu administration values constructive dialogue with religious organisations and welcomes diverse opinions on issues affecting the nation.
Bwala also urged Nigerians to avoid misinterpreting the outcome of the meeting, insisting that consultations between the government and religious leaders are aimed at strengthening mutual understanding and addressing national concerns.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to religious tolerance, freedom of worship, and continued collaboration with faith-based organisations in advancing national development.
The presidential spokesman called on Nigerians to focus on unity and peaceful coexistence, stressing that the government remains open to engaging all stakeholders in building a more prosperous and stable country.
