The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the Ekiti State governorship election.
The declaration followed the collation of results from the state’s 16 local government areas, where Oyebanji secured the highest number of valid votes cast to earn a fresh mandate from the electorate.
INEC’s Returning Officer announced the result after concluding the final collation process, confirming that the APC candidate met the constitutional requirements to be returned elected.
Oyebanji’s victory marks a significant milestone for the ruling party in Ekiti State and is expected to strengthen the APC’s political influence in the South-West ahead of future elections.
Supporters of the governor have since taken to the streets in celebration, describing the outcome as an endorsement of his administration’s policies and development programmes.
Meanwhile, opposition parties are expected to review the election results and determine their next course of action regarding the outcome of the poll.
The election attracted national attention, with political stakeholders closely monitoring the process as a key test ahead of the 2027 general elections.
