ANAMBRA DARES OBI TO QUIT 2027 RACE

The Anambra State Government has challenged former Governor Peter Obi to quit the 2027 presidential race, while releasing a document it said showed that salary arrears were outstanding during his tenure as governor.

The state government made the challenge through its New Media Office, alongside a document dated April 25, 2006, which it said was signed by Obi’s then Chief of Staff, Chuks Iloegbunam.

According to the document, workers of the Anambra State Water Corporation had not received their salaries since February 2006, while the corporation’s monthly salary bill was put at about N15 million.

The state government presented the document as evidence in its ongoing dispute with Obi over the financial records of his administration. It has also made allegations concerning loans and other obligations it says were outstanding when he left office in March 2014.

Obi’s camp has disputed the allegations, maintaining that his administration cleared inherited salary, pension and gratuity arrears and left the state in a financially stable position. The former governor and his supporters have continued to challenge claims about his administration’s financial record.

The latest exchange comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with Obi expected to remain a major figure in the opposition political space.
