ALAAFIN DISMISSES UI DON’S CLAIMS OF ARRIVING THREE HOURS LATE TO OYO EVENT
The Alaafin of Oyo has dismissed claims by a University of Ibadan (UI) lecturer that he arrived three hours late to a recent event in Oyo, describing the allegation as inaccurate and misleading.
In a statement issued by the palace, the monarch maintained that his attendance followed a schedule that had been communicated to the event organisers in advance, insisting there was no breach of protocol.
The palace explained that the Alaafin honoured the invitation in line with the agreed programme and arrived at the time allocated for his participation in the event.
According to the statement, suggestions that the monarch kept guests waiting for several hours do not reflect what transpired and fail to take into account the official arrangements made before the ceremony.
The palace urged the public to disregard what it described as false narratives capable of creating unnecessary controversy around the traditional institution.
It also reaffirmed the Alaafin’s commitment to respecting official engagements, maintaining protocol, and honouring invitations in a manner consistent with the dignity of the revered throne.
The palace called for responsible public discourse and encouraged individuals to verify facts before making public statements that could mislead the public or damage reputations.
