ABIA BLAMES FLOODING ON TERRAIN, HEAVY RAINFALL

The Abia State Government has attributed the recent flooding along the Owerrinta Road corridor to the area’s natural terrain and the intensity of recent rainfall, assuring residents that measures are being taken to address the situation.
State officials explained that the affected location is naturally prone to water accumulation during periods of heavy rainfall, leading to temporary flooding despite ongoing infrastructure improvements.
The government said engineers and relevant agencies have been deployed to assess the affected areas and identify lasting solutions to improve drainage and reduce the risk of future flooding.
Officials also appealed to residents and motorists to remain cautious while using the road during heavy rains and to cooperate with emergency and traffic management personnel.
According to the state government, efforts are underway to strengthen drainage infrastructure and implement additional flood-control measures as part of its commitment to improving public safety.
Authorities reiterated that the administration remains focused on upgrading critical infrastructure while addressing environmental challenges associated with extreme weather conditions.
