Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has accused opposition groups of staging incidents involving the destruction of political posters to create the impression that Nigerians are rejecting President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Keyamo made the allegation in a post on X, where he shared a video showing a man tearing down posters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while allegedly brandishing a weapon.

The minister described the incident as a planned “propaganda stunt”, claiming that the recording was deliberately made and circulated to portray the ruling party negatively.

He argued that similar incidents were taking place in different parts of the country and accused opposition supporters and some media platforms of presenting such events selectively to advance their political narratives.

Keyamo also referred to an incident in Lagos the previous week, in which individuals allegedly covered opposition party posters with those of President Tinubu. He said the act was also unacceptable but claimed the media reaction differed from its response to the other video.

The minister cautioned APC supporters against retaliating, stressing that his comments were not a call for political confrontation. He urged Nigerians and the international community to pay attention to what he described as attempts to manipulate public perception ahead of the elections.

Keyamo further claimed that opposition parties had suffered defeats in recent bye-elections and predicted similar outcomes in the January 16, 2027 election.

His remarks come amid increasing political activity and disputes over campaign materials, public support and the conduct of political parties ahead of the next general elections.

The allegations about coordinated poster-destruction incidents and their political motives were made by Keyamo and were not independently established in the report.
