KANO BEGINS DIPHTHERIA IMMUNISATION IN FIVE LGs

The Kano State Government has commenced a diphtheria immunisation campaign across five local government areas as part of efforts to prevent the spread of the disease.

The campaign is targeting eligible children and other vulnerable residents in affected communities, with health workers deployed to provide vaccines and raise awareness about diphtheria prevention.

The state government said the exercise is aimed at strengthening routine immunisation and protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases, particularly in communities considered at higher risk of transmission.

Health officials have also urged parents and caregivers to make their children available for vaccination and to cooperate with health workers during the exercise.

Residents were advised to seek medical attention promptly if they notice symptoms associated with diphtheria, including difficulty breathing or swallowing, sore throat, fever and swelling around the neck.

The government also called on community and religious leaders to support the campaign by encouraging residents to participate and by helping health officials reach eligible children.

Authorities said the immunisation exercise forms part of broader efforts to contain diphtheria and strengthen public health protection across Kano State.
