ANYONE WHO RIGS ELECTION UNDER ME WILL GO TO JAIL — OBI
Presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has vowed that anyone found rigging an election under his administration would be prosecuted and jailed, regardless of the number of votes involved.
Obi made the declaration during an interview with ARISE NEWS on Thursday while outlining his position on electoral integrity and democratic governance ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The former Anambra State governor said his administration would not tolerate electoral malpractice, stressing that even the manipulation of a single vote would attract punishment.
He also pledged that opposition political parties would not be harassed under his administration, saying they would be involved in decisions affecting the country.
Obi said he wanted political parties to operate freely and participate in governance, particularly on issues of national importance. He also called for opposition parties to work together to ensure elections are free, fair, credible and violence-free.
Speaking about his experience as Anambra governor, Obi recalled allowing opposition politicians to campaign freely in the state, including former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who campaigned for other candidates.
He said such political conduct was part of what he considered democratic practice, arguing that politicians should allow Nigerians to freely choose their preferred candidates at the polls.
