AGAIN, EFCC DECLARES EX-PENSION BOSS MAINA WANTED

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has again declared former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.

The anti-graft agency made the declaration in a wanted notice issued on Wednesday and signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale. The commission identified Maina, 61, as an indigene of Biu, Borno State.

The EFCC urged anyone with useful information about Maina’s whereabouts to contact any of its offices nationwide, the nearest police station or other security agencies.

The latest declaration comes amid Maina’s ongoing legal troubles. He is currently facing a separate criminal case alongside Ann Igwe Olachi over the alleged receipt of about N738.6 million in stolen funds. Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Maina was also previously convicted by a Federal High Court in Abuja and sentenced to eight years in prison for money laundering offences involving pension funds. The Court of Appeal later upheld the conviction and sentence, while he was released from custody in February 2025 after serving part of his sentence.

The EFCC’s latest wanted notice did not provide further details about the alleged stolen property involved or state when the alleged offence occurred. The commission, however, appealed to members of the public to assist with information that could help locate him.
