I WAS OFFERED N250M TO SUPPORT OBASANJO’S 3RD TERM AGENDA — FAROUK ALIYU

Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Farouk Aliyu, has claimed that he was offered N250 million to support former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s controversial third-term bid.

Aliyu made the claim while recalling the political developments surrounding the third-term agenda during Obasanjo’s administration.

According to him, the alleged offer was intended to secure his support for the constitutional amendment that would have allowed Obasanjo to remain in office beyond the constitutionally prescribed two terms.

Aliyu said he did not support the move, which ultimately failed to secure the required backing in the National Assembly.

The third-term proposal generated significant political controversy at the time, with lawmakers divided over the proposed constitutional changes.

The former lawmaker’s claim has now brought renewed attention to the political negotiations and allegations of inducements that surrounded the failed third-term effort.
