The United States has again denied Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas an entry visa to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The US cited what it described as the Palestinian Authority’s failure to implement necessary reforms as part of the reason for the visa denial.

The decision means Abbas and other Palestinian officials affected by the restrictions may be unable to travel to the US for the annual UN gathering, where world leaders are expected to discuss major international issues.

The Palestinian Authority has previously criticised US restrictions affecting its officials, while Washington has continued to call for changes in the authority’s governance and policies.

The latest decision comes as international attention remains focused on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and efforts to address the wider crisis in the region.

The UN General Assembly is scheduled to bring together representatives from member states for its annual high-level session, with the Palestinian issue expected to remain among the major topics of discussion.
