WHY NIGERIA NEEDS URGENT LEADERSHIP REFORM — OBI
Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has called for urgent leadership reform in Nigeria, arguing that the country’s progress depends largely on the quality and character of its leaders.
Obi said leadership should be at the centre of Nigeria’s reform efforts, stressing that no country can rise beyond the quality of its leadership.
According to him, effective leadership requires integrity, competence, accountability and a clear commitment to improving the lives of citizens.
The former governor said reforms in other sectors would have limited impact if the country does not also address the quality of leadership responsible for implementing them.
He made the comments amid ongoing discussions about governance, economic development and the direction of the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi said Nigeria needs leaders who can prioritise national development and use public resources responsibly to create better opportunities for citizens.
He maintained that transforming leadership should therefore be treated as an urgent national priority.
