ATIKU SLAMS TINUBU OVER BORROWING
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration over its borrowing practices, alleging that the Federal Government exceeded its approved borrowing limit by ₦4.79 trillion.
Atiku described the development as a sign of fiscal recklessness, expressing concern over the country’s rising debt profile despite expectations of improved government revenue.
He also questioned the transparency surrounding the management of public finances, calling on the Federal Government to provide Nigerians with a detailed account of its borrowing and expenditure.
According to the former presidential candidate, responsible fiscal management is essential to maintaining economic stability, restoring investor confidence, and protecting the country’s long-term financial health.
Atiku urged the government to adopt greater transparency and accountability in public finance management while ensuring that borrowed funds are directed towards projects that deliver measurable economic and social benefits.
He warned that continued borrowing without corresponding improvements in infrastructure, job creation, and public services could place a heavier financial burden on future generations.
The Federal Government has yet to officially respond to Atiku’s latest remarks as discussions over Nigeria’s debt management and fiscal policies continue.
