President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway using durable concrete pavement, a move aimed at delivering a long-lasting solution for one of Nigeria’s busiest and most strategic highways.
The approval is part of the Federal Government’s broader commitment to upgrading critical road infrastructure, improving transportation efficiency, and supporting economic growth across the country.
According to government officials, the adoption of concrete pavement is expected to increase the lifespan of the expressway, reduce maintenance costs, and better withstand the heavy traffic generated by commercial and industrial activities along the corridor.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway serves as a major economic artery, connecting Lagos to the South-West and other parts of Nigeria, while facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services.
The reconstruction project is also expected to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety, shorten travel times, and enhance the overall driving experience for millions of motorists who use the highway daily.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to investing in resilient infrastructure capable of supporting Nigeria’s long-term economic development and improving national connectivity.
Stakeholders have welcomed the decision, expressing optimism that the use of concrete pavement will provide a more sustainable and durable solution to the recurring deterioration experienced on sections of the expressway.
