Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has ordered the immediate closure of a building site in Port Harcourt following its collapse, which claimed one life and left others injured.
The governor directed relevant government agencies to seal off the site and commence a full investigation to determine the cause of the incident and identify anyone found negligent.
Fubara expressed sadness over the tragedy and extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, while wishing those injured a speedy recovery.
He stressed that the safety of residents remains a top priority, warning that the government will not tolerate violations of building regulations or professional standards.
The governor also instructed officials to carry out structural integrity assessments and ensure that all ongoing construction projects in the state comply with approved safety and regulatory requirements.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enforcing building codes and holding developers accountable to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The investigation is expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the collapse and recommend appropriate actions against any individuals or organisations found culpable.
