The Oyo State Government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on 10 local government areas in the Oke-Ogun axis and communities surrounding the Old Oyo National Park as part of intensified efforts to tackle insecurity and secure the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers.
Under the directive, residents in the affected areas will be restricted from movement between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. until further notice.
Governor Seyi Makinde said the measure became necessary following rising security concerns around the national park and ongoing operations aimed at rescuing victims kidnapped by suspected gunmen.
The affected local government areas are located within communities bordering the park, which security agencies believe has been used as a hideout by criminal elements.
The state government assured residents that the curfew is a temporary security measure designed to support ongoing rescue efforts and restore peace to the affected communities.
Makinde urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies, comply with the restrictions, and provide useful information that could assist in tracking down the perpetrators.
The curfew comes amid heightened concern over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the area, with authorities intensifying efforts to ensure their safe return.
