A Director of the National Prosperity Alliance (NPA), Olalekan Badmus, has expressed concern over the rising incidents of political violence in Osun State, warning that the trend poses a serious threat to democracy and peaceful coexistence.
Badmus said acts of intimidation, clashes among political supporters, and other forms of electoral violence could undermine public confidence in the democratic process if not urgently addressed.
According to him, elections should be contests of ideas, policies, and programmes rather than battles marked by violence and hostility.
He called on political parties, candidates, supporters, and security agencies to work together to ensure a peaceful political environment ahead of future elections in the state.
The NPA director stressed that democracy can only thrive where citizens are free to participate in politics without fear of harassment, attacks, or coercion.
He also urged stakeholders to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and respect for differing political opinions as essential ingredients for sustainable peace and development.
The remarks come amid growing concerns over political tensions in Osun, with observers calling for increased vigilance and adherence to electoral laws.
