An aide to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Jamiu Ogundele, has sponsored the NECO examination fees of 75 indigent students in the state.
The initiative was aimed at supporting underprivileged students and reducing the financial burden on struggling families ahead of the examination period.
According to reports, the beneficiaries were selected from different communities within Ogun State based on their academic potential and financial background.
Ogundele said the gesture was part of efforts to encourage academic excellence and ensure that talented students are not denied educational opportunities because of economic hardship.
Education stakeholders and community leaders praised the initiative, describing it as a positive contribution toward youth development and access to education.
Parents and beneficiaries also expressed appreciation for the support, noting that the sponsorship would ease pressure on many families facing financial challenges.
Analysts say educational assistance programmes such as examination sponsorships can help reduce school dropout rates and motivate students to pursue academic success.
The development comes amid growing calls for stronger support systems for students from low-income households across Nigeria.
Supporters of the initiative urged other public office holders and private individuals to invest more in education and youth empowerment programmes.
