Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has strongly condemned the reported assault and harassment of young women during the Alue-Do cultural festival in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Her reaction followed the circulation of disturbing videos on social media showing groups of men allegedly ripping the clothes of women and subjecting them to unwanted physical contact during the event. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for stronger protection of women and girls in public spaces.

In a statement, the First Lady described the acts as unacceptable and a violation of human dignity, urging relevant authorities to ensure that those responsible are identified and held accountable. She stressed the need for communities to uphold cultural traditions in ways that respect fundamental rights and promote safety.

Oluremi Tinubu also called on security agencies and local leaders to intensify awareness campaigns and enforce laws aimed at preventing gender-based violence. She encouraged victims to report incidents and seek appropriate support services.

Civil society organisations have also demanded thorough investigations into the matter, emphasising the importance of safeguarding women’s rights and maintaining public order during cultural gatherings.

Observers say the development has reignited discussions about security arrangements at festivals and the responsibility of organisers to guarantee the protection of participants.
