Controversy has erupted across social media after popular Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, was seen wearing a cap bearing the logo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Photos and videos circulating online show Igboho in the party-branded cap during a recent public appearance, sparking intense reactions from supporters of the Yoruba Nation agitation as well as political observers. Many users on social media questioned whether the activist, who has long been associated with the call for an independent Yoruba nation, was aligning himself with Nigeria’s ruling political party.

The images quickly went viral, with some critics accusing Igboho of contradicting the ideals of the separatist movement he once strongly championed. Others compared the situation to the stance of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), arguing that separatist leaders should remain distant from mainstream Nigerian politics.

Supporters of Igboho, however, urged the public not to jump to conclusions, saying the activist has not officially declared membership of the APC. They argued that wearing a party cap does not necessarily mean political allegiance and called for clarification before drawing conclusions.

Sunday Igboho rose to prominence in 2021 after leading rallies and campaigns against insecurity in parts of the South-West and later became one of the most visible voices advocating for the creation of a sovereign Yoruba nation. His activism led to a crackdown by Nigerian authorities, forcing him to flee the country before he was later arrested in Benin Republic and eventually released.

Since the latest images surfaced, debate has continued online, with many Nigerians demanding an explanation from the activist about his perceived association with the ruling party.
