The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has called on Muslim faithful to embrace the principles of good governance, justice, and service to humanity as pathways to both spiritual fulfilment and national development.

Obasa made the appeal during a gathering with Islamic leaders and worshippers in Lagos, where he stressed that religion should inspire leaders and citizens alike to promote accountability, fairness, and compassion in society.

According to him, the teachings of Islam emphasise honesty, responsibility, and the pursuit of collective progress, values he said are urgently needed in Nigeriaโ€™s political and social space. He urged Muslim leaders to continue preaching unity and peaceful coexistence, noting that national growth can only thrive in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding among diverse groups.

The Speaker also encouraged young people to play active roles in governance by upholding integrity and contributing positively to community development. He highlighted the importance of education, ethical leadership, and civic participation as tools for building a more stable and prosperous society.

Obasa further called on public office holders to see leadership as a trust bestowed by the people, stressing that policies and decisions should always prioritise the welfare of citizens. He added that governance anchored on justice and inclusiveness would help reduce social tensions and foster economic growth.

Religious leaders present at the event commended the message, urging Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to nation-building despite current challenges. They emphasised that faith-based values could help shape responsible leadership and encourage peaceful dialogue across political and cultural divides.

The gathering ended with prayers for peace, stability, and continued progress in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
