2027: ADC Eyes Govt Takeover As Membership Drive Begins — Mark
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the start of a nationwide membership registration drive as part of its strategy to position the party for a strong showing in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the launch, former Senate President David Mark, who is playing a leading role in the party’s reorganisation, said the new registration exercise is designed to rebuild grassroots structures and expand the party’s presence across all states. According to him, the initiative reflects the ADC’s ambition to present itself as a credible alternative capable of taking over government at the national level.
Party officials explained that the membership process will combine both manual registration at ward and local government offices and an online platform aimed at attracting young Nigerians and members of the diaspora. They said the hybrid system is meant to make participation easier while ensuring accurate documentation of members.
Mark emphasised that the registration drive is not just about numbers but about strengthening internal democracy, mobilising supporters and preparing the party for future elections. He urged Nigerians dissatisfied with the current political landscape to join the ADC and contribute to building a new political movement.
Political analysts say the development signals early realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as smaller parties intensify efforts to expand their base and attract influential figures from across the political spectrum. The ADC leadership added that further reforms, including policy consultations and leadership restructuring, will follow the membership exercise as part of its broader roadmap toward 2027.
