APC Drops Uzodimma as Convention Committee Chair
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has removed Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as chairman of its National Convention Committee, replacing him with former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari in what party insiders describe as a major internal reshuffle.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and other key stakeholders, as the ruling party intensifies preparations ahead of its forthcoming national convention.
Uzodimma, who was earlier appointed to oversee preparations for the convention, was relieved of the role amid ongoing strategic realignments within the party. While the APC has not officially disclosed the reasons for the change, sources within the party said the move was part of efforts to strengthen internal cohesion and ensure a smooth convention process.
Masari, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives and a founding member of the APC, is expected to bring his extensive political experience to bear in managing the convention committee. Party officials say his appointment is aimed at fostering consensus among various blocs within the party.
A senior APC source said the reshuffle should not be interpreted as a sanction against Uzodimma, noting that the Imo governor remains a key figure within the ruling party and continues to play prominent roles in national party affairs.
“The party is simply reorganising for effectiveness. Governor Uzodimma remains a respected leader within the APC,” the source said.
The APC national convention is expected to address critical issues, including party leadership positions, internal reforms, and preparations for future elections.
Efforts to reach the APC National Publicity Secretary for official comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
