Nigeria’s Health Minister has said that meaningful reform of the country’s healthcare value chain cannot be achieved through prayers or wishful thinking, but through science-driven, evidence-based policies and sustained investment.
Speaking on the state of the sector, the minister stressed that data, innovation, and accountability must guide decisions across healthcare delivery—from training and workforce retention to infrastructure, financing, and local pharmaceutical production. According to him, relying on sentiment rather than research has slowed progress and weakened outcomes for patients.
He added that strengthening the healthcare value chain requires coordinated action by government, private investors, researchers, and professionals, noting that countries that prioritize science and policy consistency record better health indicators and economic gains.
The minister urged stakeholders to support reforms anchored on evidence, transparency, and long-term planning, insisting that this approach is the only way to build a resilient and sustainable healthcare system in Nigeria.
