The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed concern over the growing number of PDP governors and members defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in Abuja after inaugurating the PDP Convention Communication Sub-committee, Mohammed said that while some PDP governors who defected to the APC are free to make their choices, many of them are “not finding it easy politically” after their move.

He acknowledged that defections have posed challenges but insisted that PDP governors are working quietly to keep the party united ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor noted that the association of figures like former President Goodluck Jonathan and Peter Obi with the PDP demonstrates Nigerians’ continued interest in the party. He added that despite some defections, the PDP remains more organized than most opposition parties.

Recent reports indicate that some PDP governors—including Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), and Ifeanyi Okowa (former vice-presidential candidate)—have defected to the APC. Others, such as Peter Mbah (Enugu) and Douye Diri (Bayelsa), are also rumoured to be considering joining the ruling party ahead of the PDP’s National Elective Convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan.
