President Bola Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Côte d’Ivoire.

Each player received $100,000, while each member of the 11-man coaching and technical crew got $50,000.

In addition, Tinubu gifted all players and staff a three-bedroom flat at the Renewed Hope Estate. He also awarded them the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

The announcement was made by Vice President Kashim Shettima at a special reception held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, warmly welcomed the team at 5:05 pm.

Other top officials in attendance included:

Femi Gbajabiamila (Chief of Staff)

Garba Maidoki (Senate Youth and Sports Committee Chairman)

Kabiru Amadou (House Sports Committee Chairman)

D’Tigress won their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title by defeating Mali 78–64 in the final. This victory marks their seventh overall championship, making them the most successful team in African women’s basketball.

This ceremony follows a similar one held a week earlier for the Super Falcons, who also received rewards after winning the 10th WAFCON title in Morocco.
