Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has revealed that he intended to publicly criticise former President Muhammadu Buhari after his death, but his wife intervened and advised him against it.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Fayose said:

> “When President Buhari died, I wanted to come out and abuse him, but my wife told me not to say anything.”

Fayose, a long-time critic of Buhari’s administration, reiterated that he does not believe in glorifying the dead if they did not perform well while alive.

> “Would you say Buhari performed? I’m not among those praising the dead… Don’t honour me when I die. When I die, I’m gone,” he added.

Buhari passed away on July 13, 2025, in a UK hospital and was buried two days later in Daura, Katsina State.

In the same interview, Fayose defended President Bola Tinubu, describing him as more accessible and transparent than Buhari. While acknowledging Tinubu’s imperfections, he praised his leadership style:

> “He is not a perfect man, but we are not where we were… Nigeria is a sick country. Tinubu inherited a very bad economy. It will take a miracle to fix it quickly.”
