Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has confirmed that a strategic meeting involving key opposition figures was held in Abuja on Tuesday night as part of efforts to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

El-Rufai revealed that the coalition—which includes himself, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi—has formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their united political platform ahead of the polls.

According to a source familiar with the meeting, the decision to back the ADC was reached after hours of deliberation that stretched into the early hours of Wednesday.

“Yesterday at 8 PM, there was a very important meeting of the coalition we’re building to ensure President Tinubu returns to Lagos,” El-Rufai stated while speaking at the Arewa TechFest in Katsina on Wednesday.

Despite the coalition’s aim to replace the current administration, El-Rufai noted that some members of the present government, such as Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani, may be retained due to their commendable performance. “We will still keep Bosun Tijani because he is doing a good job,” he added.
