The Federal Government has approved a total of N4 billion as take-off grants for two newly established tertiary institutions — the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic and the Federal University, Epe — in a move aimed at expanding access to higher education and strengthening technical and academic capacity in the country.
Officials disclosed that the funds will be used to support the initial infrastructure development, procurement of learning equipment, recruitment of academic and non-academic staff, and administrative set-up necessary for the institutions to commence operations.
According to government sources, the approval reflects the administration’s commitment to improving human capital development and boosting the nation’s education sector, particularly in areas of science, technology, and innovation. The institutions are expected to provide new opportunities for thousands of prospective students and contribute to local economic growth in their host communities.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the decision, noting that the establishment of the new polytechnic and university will help reduce pressure on existing tertiary institutions while promoting skills acquisition and research development.
Authorities also indicated that additional support may be provided in subsequent phases as the institutions progress towards full academic activities.
More details on the implementation timeline and admission processes are expected to be announced in the coming months.
