A coalition of northern youth groups has told President Bola Tinubu that his prospects for the 2027 elections depend heavily on addressing widespread insecurity and economic hardship troubling Nigerians.
The youths said political endorsements or elite alliances will not sway voters if the current realities of banditry, kidnapping, rising food prices and unemployment remain unaddressed. They urged the president to prioritise restoring security in the North, where many communities continue to suffer from violent attacks.
According to the coalition, Nigerians want tangible improvements — safer roads, functioning markets, job opportunities and effective governance — not political rhetoric. They warned that only visible progress in citizens’ welfare can determine whether Tinubu retains nationwide support going into 2027.
The groups also called on security agencies to intensify operations against criminal gangs and for the government to implement policies that reduce poverty and stabilise the economy.
