The Federal Government has named Dr Wakeel Lawal as the substantive Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, following the completion of the evaluation and approval processes.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare said Lawal’s appointment takes immediate effect. The ministry noted that the new leadership is expected to strengthen service delivery and advance the hospital’s specialist care capabilities.
Lawal, a senior orthopaedic surgeon with years of clinical and administrative experience, succeeds the former acting head and is expected to drive ongoing reforms across key departments.
The government urged the new Medical Director to prioritise efficiency, patient care standards, and staff development, reaffirming its commitment to improving outcomes in federal tertiary health institutions.
